Right, This is Xposted. I am new to this group by the way. 26 years old, from southwest England, and starting a theatre company: The South Devon Players. We are currently looking for people to be involved in our first show (a historical comic drama "The Tale Of Reverend John Prince", which is based on a true local scandal that happened in 1699)... we have several roles available for male actors (aged 18- 70) and would also like to hear from people interested in joining as stage manager, or makeup! Hopefully those who become involved in this show will continue on with the theatre company through future shows.
A quick breakdown of the characters is as follows (I have only listed ages where they are important. Otherwise we are prepared to be flexible!) It does not matter if you have not done a lot of acting before.. all are good size roles, unless otherwise stated....

John Tucker - A local loutish character....
Thomas Southcote - needs to be aged 60+ (appears in play several times, a few lines only. The father of the girl who has apparantly had an affiar with the vicar!)
court "note taker" Not actually a speaking role, but is on stage throught act2 in the court scene.
Walter Bogan Described in history books as a "local gentleman"..
William Payne Local tradesman and husband of the town gossip. Ideally aged in mid thirties..
"Angel" Local inkeeper, age mid-twenties upwards.

Rehearsals will be most Wednesdays, from May 17th, at 8pm at the Brixham British Legion Club, with the shows starting from the end of August locally in aid of charity and then being toured around Devon for shared profit. Email me if you would like to consider getting involved on bardic_dreams@yahoo.co.uk, to arrange an audition (for actors) or interview (for stage manager/ makeup).

If you are studying to be a director, actor/actress, director of photography, film editor, screenplay writer, etc.

I'm setting up a website in a week or so.

Ideally, it will be a community for students nation-wide. Aspiring directors, DP's, set designers, screenwriters, and actors will be able to collaborate with each other to create films that suit their own artistic vision and cinematic goals. This will be a non-profit site to encourage collaboration and the production of films. There are too many students who are wasting their time when they could be off shooting or acting in movie.

I'll have forums and ads where you can post your role (actor, director, DP, songwriter). You can exchange phone numbers with other students in the same area. In my opinion, this is the best way to assemble a closely knit, efficient, and serious movie crew. If you are serious about working in the film, please email me at dcho787@fastmail.fm. I will reply shortly with a link to the site.

Hi everyone! I'm a new member. I'm auditioning for a few plays, and musicals this month, and I need help on deciding a song for each audition. I'm an 18 year old female, and I am a mezzo. I can also sing alto very well.
What I'm auditioning for:
Smokey Joe's Cafe
Honk, Jr.
Noises Off

I would prefer songs from Wicked, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, or Chicago, because I'm familiar with those musicals, but it's alright if the songs you choose aren't.

Cross-posted like mad, because I need the information fairly quickly.

9:33 pm - A Scene

Hello, all!

Do any of you know the title and/or author of a funny scene (maybe from a larger play, maybe not) for two males. One of the men is in love with the wife of the other man, who is his good friend, and he considers to himself the different ways in which his friend might react.

At one point he thinks that his friend will kill him the way they do in Italian movies, and he imagines the experience with the two of them speaking in frantic Italian; at another, he thinks his friend may just pat him on the shoulder and wish him all the best.

If you have any idea where I might find this scene, please, please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: It turns out the play is Play It Again, Sam by Woody Allen. This helps a lot. Many, many thanks to everyone who helped!

hey everbody! my name is sarah, and I'm 14. I am madly and passionately in love with the arts (haha). I've been doing theater since I was 5 and have done 24 plays/musicals. I love singing, so musicals are more of a passion for me. Some of my favorite roles have been: Lilli Vanessi in "Kiss me Kate" and Kate in "Working." I have also done several professional singing performances. I hope one day to be a proffesional singer, although acting would also be acceptable. this will be difficult because my mom fired my agent about 1 1/2 years ago (almost 2 years... noooo). I love going to see the theater (some favorite plays of mine include: Thouroughly Modern Millie, Kiss me Kate, Le Miserable, A little Night Music, Little Shop of Horrors), and since I live in L.A., it's usually nota problem. I wanted to join this community because I love the arts so much. ok, thanks!

12:24 am - New.

Hello. My name is Katy, and I am a theatre lover. I am sixteen years old and have been in 10 plays, and currently working on my 11th. My favorite roles have included: Agnes Gooch in "Auntie Mame", Rosie Probert, Mrs. Cherrie Owen, and Gwennie in "Under Milkwood". I much perfer dramatic theatre to anything else... I don't really like being in musicals all too much.. mainly b/c I can't sing. But, I do musicals when they arise b/c I will miss theatre too much if I'm not always in a play. Right now I am in the summer musical at my local community theatre, "the Secret Garden." I don't have a speaking role b/c, as I said I can't sing.. I am just a dancer in this one. I am entering my senior year of highschool and can't wait to get back to my Theatre IV Productions class where we will get back to plays.

I found this community through my best friend, Amelia. (see below)

10:21 pm - Hello, I'm new

Hi. My name's Amelia and I stumbled upon this community while interest-searching. I am proud to call myself an actress, having walked onto the stage at the ripe old-age of seven. To date, I have been in 25 plays, all with the city of Irving, save one, which was in Dallas.

I just finished "Crimes of the Heart" at ICT Mainstage, playing Babe. Absolutely loved it. I breathe the theatre. My mother is a theatre teacher, my father is on the Board of Directors at ICT Mainstage, and my brother just finished "Hansel and Gretel" with ICT Children's Theatre. My other brother....well, smokes a lot of pot. This seemed like the "classiest" theatre community I've come across; all the other ones have members who's entire theatre knowledge consists of their PTA plays, where they played "Tree #3", and crap like that.

So I hope everyone here has actually HEARD of more plays than just the ones we had to read in school.

7:59 pm - Hmmm

I feel bad that I missed your last comment, labelladame. I wasn't paying attenion I guess.

No one ever posts here.

Am thinking about turning my lastest story into a play, but don't really see how it would work.

I was in my first musical: Beauty and the Beast. I only choked during one song of all the five performances. V. proud of myself.

Batboy is opening in Albany. I still feel bad I chickened out at auditions. Oh well.

Princess Bride should be happening in September or October. Very excited! I haven't played a lead in so long... and Buttercup is a dream!

Blah. We're closing out "The Good Doctor" tonight at Mainstage. I looked at the strike list on the dressing room door and (surprise, surprise) I got stuck with the stage crew. Again. So while everyone else gets to sweep or (god forbid) wipe down the counters in the makeup room, I get to help dismantle the set. The upside is that all that will really entail is taking apart the paryaktoids and putting the flats back in the scene shop. It wasn't like with Little Shop when we were out there busting the florist's shop up with sledgehammers...

4:12 pm - Hello hello...

I was just passing through and I happened upon your blog. It looks rather spiffy, and the "join this community" link seemed to be calling my name. So here I am, in all my diminutive glory. :)

Let's see, where to begin...

Theatre is my life. I love (good) acting, especially musical theatre. I've been in four shows, and am currently working on my fifth and sixth. Number seven will probably take place this summer and probably be "Grease".

My favorite show so far has been Little Shop of Horrors. I was in the chorus, but more often than not, those can be even more fun than leads.

Feel free to email me. Or add me to your IM list. Email is evilelfqueen@hotmail.com.

Till later,

current mood: artistic

3:28 pm - Hello

Hi, my name is also Lizzy, and I was just searching around for a theatre group, and yours looks like so much fun, so here I am. I hope people are still around.

I am 16,a nd have been in three plays, two of which I wrote and helped direct. My favorite role of all time is Elizabeth Bennet, who I played last year.

I am still trying to get up the nerve to adution -- I haven't in along time, I write my own stuff, so no worries. But I am so scared of auditioning!

I'm Lizzie, your friendly founder/maintainer.
I love all things theatre...I act and sing, and love to go see shows. At the end of the school year I played Filch in Brecht's The Threepenny Opera, and was then in five short student written and directed plays, which were all so much fun.
So join, and post away!
